On Monday, September 14, Bear Creek’s varsity boys soccer team claimed the first victory on the new turf field.
With high levels of excitement and anticipation for the first game of the season, Bear Creek’s varsity boys began their face off against Ben Holt College Preparatory Academy. Forward senior Ryan Cordova scored the first goal off of a through ball from attacking midfielder junior Charles Brewah for Bear Creek within the first ten minutes of the game. After fouls from Ben Holt’s penalty box, Bear Creek received and scored off of two penalty kicks.
Ben Holt scored their first and only goal of the game as Bear Creek’s goalie attempted an unsuccessful slide tackle. The Bruins led the first half with a score of 4-1.
Within the first five minutes of the second half, Brewah scored two more goals, after scoring off of one penalty kick in the first half, bringing him to a “hat trick” record — three goals in one game. Defender Edgar Cardenas scored a goal slightly under the half line and defender Crescencio Cruz followed, adding two more points for Bear Creek.
Bear Creek reigned victorious over Ben Holt with a final score of 7-1 — the team’s first win in almost two years. Following a proud triumph, varsity boys hope to acquire more success as the season progresses and will travel to Chavez on September 24 for their next game.
