Clubs on Campus: Swing Club

Brooke Shimasaki, Feature Editor

Bear Creek’s Swing Club teaches members about the challenging, jazz-inspired style of swing dancing.  Partners learn upbeat moves and fun leg jives. Additionally, duos build trust with one another while performing various lifts, flips, and dips.  Fridays after school, president Hannah Fay, vice president Jan Luce, and other council members teach dancers more than twenty different swing-inspired moves reminiscent of the American Jazz Era.  Currently, the club is practicing their routine for International Rally, which blends old-school music and vibes of the 1920’s with popular jams of the 21st century.  Over a decade after the rise swing style dancing, Bear Creek’s Swing Club prove that this fun American dance is a timeless classic.
