DIY Mug
September 28, 2016
Step 1: Clean mugs with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue.
Step 2: Using an oil based paint pen, draw your design on your mug.
Step 3: Allow the mug to dry and go over your design with marker again.
Step 4: Let the design dry for 24-72 hours and place it in a cool oven.
Step 5: Turn the oven on and bake at 425F. Once the oven reaches this temperature, set the timer for 30 minutes.
Step 6: Let the mug cool down with the oven so it doesn’t crack due to temperature changes.
Step 7: Enjoy your custom DIY mug!
Tips:
Cheaper mugs (like ones from the dollar store) work better because it is easier for the paint to melt into the glaze.
Draw out your design on paper before you place it on the mug to get the look you want.
Use an oil-based sharpie instead of a regular sharpie.
If you mess up, wipe it off with nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol.
Make sure to hand wash the mug to ensure the safety of your design.
Let the mug sit in the oven as it warms up and cools down.
