Letter to My Freshman Self: Gwendolyn Poole

Gwendolyn Poole, Photography Editor

Dear Freshman Gwendolyn,
Dang girl, you don’t know it yet, but you’re not gonna be able to recognize yourself senior year.
We’ll just ignore the fact that you will actually look like a girl (with long hair, an ability to actually do makeup, and everything), but you’re going to have a sense of individuality and people you never in your wildest dreams thought you’d meet  (who might I add actually enjoy your company.)
I know it’s going to suck having to deal with all the crap that will happen by the time you’re 18, and trust me you’ll still have to deal with it senior year also, but honestly, everything that happens is going to make you, you.
Don’t listen to anyone but yourself and be confident in your appearance and your abilities. I want you to close your eyes and imagine a brown hair, brown eyed girl with a future career in the U.S. Army and a loving family. That same girl spends days being comfortable in her body and the people she’s surrounded by. Her permanent accessory is a smile on her face.
Can you imagine her? Well by 18, that’ll be you.
Love a very proud senior,
Gwendolyn
